Buckwheat Zydeco Jr., whose real name is Sir Reginald Masters Dural, is the son of zydeco legend Stanley “Buckwheat” Dural Jr. (Buckwheat Zydeco). Excerpts from Wikipedia: Born on June 21, 1970, in Lafayette, Louisiana, Buckwheat Jr. was immersed in zydeco and Creole music from a young age. He grew up near the iconic zydeco figure Clifton Chenier and started his musical career by joining his father’s band at 17, initially playing the rubboard before mastering the accordion, Hammond B-3 organ, and other instruments.
Following the death of his father in 2016, Buckwheat Zydeco Jr. took over as the frontman of the Grammy Award-winning Ils Sont Partis Band, which was originally founded by his father. He continues to uphold and celebrate the zydeco tradition, performing worldwide with his band and involving his son Kyle Anthony Dural, who plays the rubboard alongside him. Buckwheat Zydeco Jr. has won two Grammy Awards, including the 2024 Grammy for Best Regional Roots Music Album for his album “New Beginnings,” and has gained multiple Grammy nominations.
His career includes collaborations with musical legends such as Eric Clapton, Paul Simon, Willie Nelson, and Mavis Staples. Buckwheat Zydeco Jr. is a prominent ambassador for zydeco, blues, and Louisiana’s rich musical heritage, performing more than 2,500 shows globally and continuing the legacy his father started.
