The 5th Annual Accordion Noir Festival is about to hit Vancouver with a fevered swell of music, performance and dance! For one weekend in September, accordion lovers, likers and even some looking to have their minds changed, will converge upon various Vancouver venues to take in a little raucous squeezebox, and kick up their heels in celebration of the accordion!
This years festival will see several international accordion stars taking the stage alongside Vancouver’s favorite folk noir, gypsy, Roma and swing musicians. There’ll be an Underdog Instrument Grudge Match, the return of Panstereorama, and even an accordion workshop, stocked with two technicians who can give your accordion a little TLC.

It all kicks off Thursday with “THE BIG SQUEEZE” at the Cobalt, featuring a host of acts from Vancouver plus accordion noir favorite Geoff Berner as emcee, and all the way from Norway, the accordion cabaret siren Guro Von Germeten. Thursday evening also features some amazing collaborations of music and acting/puppetry, experimental theatre and dance. Friday will really get the bellows pumping with an “ACCORDION DANCE PARTY” at the Grandview Legion, with a melee of musicians including soul & blues, folk and jug band ditties. The weekend pinnacle is reached with “PANSTEREORAMA” at the Waldorf, complete with those notorious Maria in the Shower boys, San Francisco’s Squeezebox Goddess Renee de la Prade, Orkestar Slivovica, magic, burlesque and more!
Sunday sews it all up with “ACCORDION DAY AT THE ANZA”, an all day affair starting with an accordion workshop with two amazing repair specialists, and a series of events hosted by Vancouver’s own quirky accordion playing songwriter and performer, the inimitable Barbara Adler.
