Accordion Festival in Bryant Park on September 16

On Sept. 16,2022 at 7:PM, the Accordion Festival returns to Bryant Park after a two-year hiatus. The festival will feature bands and free reed instrumentalists who hail from various different backgrounds and cultures. Attendees can hear from Afghani musician Ahmad Fanoos alongside his sons, Ukrainian music from two ensembles, the experimental Balaklava Blues, and much more. The day will also hold the premiere of Cinco12: The Music of Selena which honors the music of the late artist with performances of some of her best hits.
The following performances are scheduled:
Heart of Afghanistan with Afghani music icon Ahmad Fanoos and his sons, who recently relocated to the US from Afghanistan;
Ukrainian Village Voices polyphonic singing collective on a mission to preserve the culture of small village life of Ukraine. Ben
Balaklava Blues who fuses Ukrainian polyphony and other folk traditions with EDM, trap, and dubstep, falling between a traditional song cycle and a full blown techno show;
A Mexican Independence Day premiere of Cinco12: The Music of Selena, performing the music of the late pop star Selena, an icon who openly celebrated her Chicana identity and served as a representation for the hopes and aspirations for many.
Bryant Park is one of the world’s busiest public spaces. More than 12 million people per year visit the park to enjoy over 1,000 free events including winter activities, cultural programming, daily amenities, and the park’s lush gardens featuring seasonal displays.
