The Accordion Pops Orchestra was founded in 1970 by the Accordion Teachers Association of New Jersey. The first conductor was Dr. Jacob Neupauer followed by maestro Eugene Ettore in 1980 and Daniel Desiderio in 1985. Since 2011 the group has been under the direction of Al Terzo, one of the original members. In addition to New Jersey, the group now has members from Pennsylvania, New York, and Delaware. The 30 member group rehearses once a month and performs 4 or 5 concerts a year.
In recent years, several orchestras from around the work have asked the Pops for their arrangements after watching the group on YouTube. This includes orchestras from the United Kingdom, Germany, Belgium, Australia, and Malta. The orchestra performs a repertoire of Light Classics, Broadway Big Band and Popular music. The orchestra has entertained audiences at many locations including concert halls, festivals, playhouses and churches in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, New York, Delaware and Virginia.
