Dr. William Schimmel at Bruno Walter Auditorium, a Great SuccessOn Monday evening, November 18, 2024, Dr. William Schimmel performed to a packed house at the Bruno Walter Auditorium at the New York Library for the Performing Arts at Lincoln Center. His concert, “What’s Tango about the Classics?” took classical Favorites and placed them in the Tango mode. Dr. Schimmel, a classically-trained accordionist, returned to perform classic repertoire he learned in conservatory with an inflection of tango influence. He has performed with virtually every ensemble in New York, including the New York Philharmonic, the Metropolitan Opera, and Jazz at Lincoln Center.

Some of the titles were: “Semi – Rainy Day (Semiramide)”, “Tango of the Buzz” (Flight of the Bumble Bee), “Beaux Arts tango” (Ravel’s Quartet in F), Strauss’s “Emperor Tango”
And many more.

Here are some reviews of the concert:
“It was wonderful to hear William Schimmel’s solo concert at Bruno Walter Auditorium Lincoln Center on Monday night! Grace, space, humor, gentleness, virtuosity – always expressive and never crowded. The set of music, “What’s Tango about the Classics” is a series of Bill’s compositions that uses classical pieces as a jumping off point, filters them through a tango lens, and ends up somewhere unique and beautiful Thank you Bill!”……..Will Holshouser, composer, accordionist and professor at Brooklyn College

“Bravo to the brilliant William Schimmel for his wonderful accordion concert at the NYPL this evening! Such a fabulous program – the music swell as the entertaining and interesting commentary. I always love how many eclectic styles Bill curates in all of his programs – and
Here mashed up many classics with a tango theme. So great! Bill and his wife, Micki are two of the most talented people I know – and that is saying a lot.” ………Pamela Grayson, Playwright.

“The Concert was a smashing success. I got a lot of positive feedback from folks on the way out. We are always glad when you are here. I enjoyed the music. You were really shredding up there.”………..Kevin Parks, Producer

“Your performance was so virtuosic. And I really like you talking to the audience. It’s so engaging. It makes and hour and a half Fly by.”……..Lee Mc Clure – founder and director of Eclectix
