
Emmy Award winning filmmaker, Roberta Cantow, filmed the above clip of Fred Ferino, which features him as a shop owner, player/composer and accordion repair man. Roberta said, “There is a charming ‘old world’ quality’ about him.” Fred is also known to the world as an inventor. He passed away in October 2013.
Roberta is working on a new documentary on the accordion expected to be released in December 2014. She describes her film , “The A Word, ” as being about a maligned musical instrument. For some, it is the forbidden one. For others in the know, there has been an explosion of interest over it and its many faces and facets. Let the accordion music story begin!”
Due to the contemporary focus, the clip featuring Fred Ferino may not be able to be included in the film, but Roberta wanted to honor him with this post.
Roberta is an accomplished filmmaker. Her most recent film, “Not a Still Life” was featured on April 29, 2014 at the Buffalo Niagara Film Festival. It was also featured on April 14, 2014 at the Athens International Film and Video Festival in Athens, Ohio.
Her other films include: “The Book of Laughs, ” an experimental narrative; “Moon Festival, “about the Vietnamese Harvest Moon Festival, “Clotheslines”, about the symbolic and artistic role of laudry in women’s lives; “Doctor Clown,” featuring Dr. Patch Adams and his clown entourage in Russia and “If This Ain’t Heaven,” a portrait of a man who speaks to and for his cat.
