

The 21st Annual Leavenworth International Accordion Celebration hosted by the Northwest Accordion Society takes place June 16-19, 2016. The Northwest Accordion Society has been hosting accordion festivals in the Northwest for over 25 years.

This year Frank Marocco will be honored with the appearance of jazz group,The Slight Confusion stet. Two of its members, Philippe Cornaz on vibes and Ivor Malherbe performed with Frank on his Freedom Flight CD. Their performance is scheduled for June 17, 2016 at 8:PM at the Leavenworth Festhall. The group also includes Laurent Derache on accordion, Mike Richmond on bass, and Antoine Brouze on drums.
Make a date at the movies to see award winning film “Accordions Rising” Time: Fri, 11:30AM Grange/Upper Price: $10. ”Accordions Rising” is a documentary feature film about the resurgence of interest in accordion music over the last 30-40 years. Though many continue to see the accordion as the stodgy instrument of a bygone era – and accordion jokes abound — it is time to set the record straight!Music Festival. Film length: 74 min. Mike Zampicani from San Francisco will perform Italian music, Mary Ross-Kiektau from Victoria, BC performing Scottish Country Dance music followed by the Spokane Accordion Ensemble performing American favorites.
On Friday, Gary Blair from Scotland performing his favorites followed by the Slight Confusion 4tet.On Saturday a concert by virtuoso soloist Jelena Milojevic followed by the BC Accordion Orchestra will take place.
LIAC will be held on June 16 – 19, 2016. This will be LIAC number 23 and the 7th year the Northwest Accordion Society has produced the festival.
