We can all agree that ATG President Mary Ann Covone devotes her life to the accordion, performing, writing,teaching, serving as ATG President and more! She exudes enthusiasm for the accordion in all its many forms and styles of music. Mary Ann is always happy to share her love and knowledge of the accordion!
Mary Ann Covone, ATG President was featured in the Sigma Alpha Iota quarterly journal Pan Pipes. The article tells about Mary Ann’s journey with the accordion, beginning with a historical review of the popular “heyday” of the accordion in the 1940-1970’s, her decision to attend University of Missouri Kansas City Conservatory of Music to study accordion performance with Joan Cochran Sommers, returning to accordion after a 30-year career as an attorney, and then becoming president of the ATG.
The article also gives an excellent short story of the history of the ATG, the recent and coming festival, the value of the ATG syllabus, and the establishing of her Chicagoland Accordion Academy.
The Pan Pipes journal was distributed to just under 10,000 professional musicians, professors, teachers and music students in colleges and universities. Sigma Alpha Iota is a professional sorority for women in the field of music.
