
On March 22, 2015 composer/accordionist Nick Ariondo was featured on Radio Beograd in Serbia in a “Century Accordion” Concert Presentation Series. The program was hosted by Marija Sekularac.
Selections from his CD “Trilucence” were played. Instrumentation is accordion, clarinet, violin, and piano. Radio listeners heard Nick Ariondo performing his own compositions as well as his arrangements of other composers of the 20th century.
Nick Ariondo, accordionist and composer, was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where he began his early accordion studies at seven years of age with Mario Di Nardo. The family moved to California where he continued his studies with Ford Bosman, with prominent classical accordionist Anthony Galla-Rini and with jazz accordionist Tommy Gumina.
Nick attended Los Angeles City College and California State University at Los Angeles where he received his Bachelors & Masters in Music Composition & Performance. Nick Ariondo’s performances and music compositions encompass a wide variety of music styles from classical, modern contemporary, ethnic & world cultures from gypsy to jazz.
Nick’s artistry is presented in solo recital, chamber music and appearances with symphony orchestra as Ariondo continually searches for new and innovative techniques, a lifetime dedicated to promoting the accordion and its unlimited resources.
His expressive performances & compositions have been appreciated worldwide and music critics rank him among the avant-garde artists and is often referred to as the “Yehudi Menuhin of the accordion.” The Los Angeles Times calls Nick Ariondo “the irrepressible avant-garde accordionist!”…..”infinitely expressive, technically dazzling!”….. “the pre-eminent accordionist”…….”a force to be reckoned with!”
