Rose City Accordion Club Silver Falls Camp 2009

July 1st 2009
Rita Davidson Barnea

The Rose City (Portland Oregon) Accordion Camp at Silver Falls Conference Center, held from June 7 – 12, was a huge success.

Sixty four people attended from three countries, USA, Canada and Great Britain. Gary Blair came from Scotland.

Ilmar Kuljus was the musical director with Murl Allen Sanders as the Guest Conductor. Gary Blair and Lillian Jones were the teachers for the workshops. All of the music staff gave “one on one” sessions with the participants who signed up for this.

The accordionists were split into two groups to form the “Morning Orchestra” and the “Afternoon Orchestra”. This defined their rehearsal time so when they were not in rehearsal they could attend workshops or “one on one” sessions. Workshops were offered on the following subjects, “Bellows Control”, “Make the music your own”, “Improve your technique”, “Adding ornaments”.

There was time for sectional rehearsals of orchestra parts and also free time to play together and form various size groups. These groups and individuals had opportunities each evening to perform for the rest of the campers.

Silver Falls Accordion Camp 2010 will be held June 6 – 11 and is limited to 50 accordionists. Thirty have already enrolled. If you are interested in attending next year’s camp, it is usually sold out by January, so please send in your $50 deposit to:
