Award-Winning Lineup of Texas Music Legends Expected to Draw Thousands of Fans from Across the State of Texas
WHAT:
Texas Folklife is hosting the 30th Annual Accordion Kings & Queens concert at Miller Outdoor Theatre in Hermann Park Houston. The celebrated event features a lineup of the best in Texas accordion music genres, including conjunto, zydeco, Cajun and more. 2019 performers include Los Aztex featuring Grammy Award-winning artists Joel Guzman and Sarah Fox, Curtis Poullard and the Creole Zydeco Band, The Daiquiri Queens and Ginny Mac. The concert will also feature appearances by Texas Folklife’s 2019 Big Squeeze statewide youth accordion contest winners. The vibrant showcase draws thousands of music fans to dance and enjoy roots music played on the “the national instrument of Texas.”

Assigned covered seating is available in advance with Texas Folklife membership until May 29 or free general admission tickets can be picked up before 1 p.m the day of the show at the Miller Outdoor Theatre box office.

To celebrate three decades of Accordion Kings & Queens, Texas Folklife is hosting a 30th AKQ Kick-Off Party. The event will feature live music from past Accordion Kings & Queens performers Keyun Dickson & the Zydeco Masters and Mark Halata & Texavia, event ticket giveaways, and a presentation of the Star of Texas Folklife award to longtime AKQ event photographer David Dodd.The event is free and open to the public with RSVP!
