“The Solomon Diaries” are songs of freedom, rebellion, celebration, tradition, independence, loss, hope, decay and renewal – this is the music of Sam Sadigursky’s “The Solomon Diaries”. Originally inspired by the peculiar history and modern remnants of the Borscht Belt, these songs present Sadigursky’s unique work, bringing together an eclectic mix of tradition, improvisation, global influences and a classical chamber intimacy.

The album combines “Jewish spiritual and Klezmer music with post-minialism classical, jazz, and tinges of American folk. Clarinetist Sam Sadigursky and accordionist/multi-instrumentalist Nathan Koci release the next two volumes of The Solomon Diaries (Adhyaropa Records), a quintet of evocative albums reflecting on the Borscht Belt region—the primary Jewish resort community that helped shape 20th-century American culture—and also exploring contemporary immigrant and Jewish experiences. Both a compelling musical remembrance of a bygone era and a look to the future, The Solomon Diaries: Vol. IV & V combines the Sadigursky-Koci Duo with notable multi-genre guest artists: pianist Timo Andres (Tony Award nominee for Illinoise), mandolinist Joe Brent (founder of Adhyraropa Records), kaval/alto saxophonist Matt Darriau (The Klezmatics), pianist Danny Fox (Nefesh Mountain), and violinist Meg Okura (Pan Asian Chamber Jazz Ensemble).”

All 21 original songs on this album are written by both Sadigursky and Koci. Many of the songs are dedicated to prominent figures in their respective musical and personal lives.

“Aviary” by Will Holshouser performed live at Barbès in Brooklyn NY on Jan. 19, 2025.

Will Holshouser’s new solo accordion album, “The Lone Wild Bird” is now available to order on  Adhyâropa Records.(streaming, digital, CD). Will shares, “The Lone Wild Bird” is one of my mother’s favorite hymns from the southern shape note tradition. Birds are mysterious creatures and great musicians — to our imaginations, they can represent the divine spirit, ghosts, war, peace, etc. Most of the album consists of my own compositions for solo accordion, written over the last few years, which draw on folk, jazz and classical influences.”
