“A decision to not hold the full-blown My Tejano Awards event at the Mission Event Center in Mission, Texas, due to the uptick in Covid infections at the time of our decision,” said Mando San Roman, My Tejano Awards Vice President. “This was decided with the health and safety of our Tejano artists, fans, production crew, staff, and volunteers. We still wanted to make sure and honor the recipients and therefore decided to hold two MTA banquets, one in Mission, Texas, on Wednesday, Oct. 20th, and the other one last night Dec 15th in San Antonio. This was done in order to make it easier for artists to receive their awards.”
The My Tejano Awards, which honors Tejano artists past and present for their outstanding achievement and contribution to Tejano music, were postponed due to the pandemic in 2020 and were handed out this year with the two ceremonies hosted by Tejano music icon and Hall of FamerShelly Lares. Multiple winners included Stevie D, who won Top Album 2021 with Estamos Unidosand Top Video 2021 with “Irremediable,” and Stefani Montielwas named Top Entertainer and Top Video 2020 for “Echame La Culpa” with La Calma.
