Nathan Chapeton and Mary Tokarski Perform for LIAA

The Long Island Accordion Alliance (LIAA) gathering on Wednesday, June 5, 2019 at 6:PM feature guest artists Mary Tokarski and Nathan Chapeton.

Nathan Chapeton is a young musician who became interested in playing the accordion at the age of eight when he heard his teacher, Mary Tokarski perform in concert. Mr. Chapeton has appeared as a guest artist in many local musical organizations including the Long Island Accordion Alliance, the Brooklyn Accordion Club, and as a frequent performer at Connecticut Accordion Association events. Nathan has earned the privilege of representing the United States- AAA at the Coupe Mondiale (World Accordion Championships) several times and is planning on competing at the upcoming 2019 Coupe Mondiale in Shenzhen, China.

Nathan was among participants from around the globe (all over the United States and internationally from Russia, Ukraine, China and Canada) to perform at the 2018 First Honors Recital at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall in New York City where he performed Alexander Tcherepnin’s “Partita”. Nathan has also appeared as guest soloist with both the New Haven Symphony and the Hamden Symphony Orchestra in Connecticut.

Concert accordionist, Mary Tokarski performs both nationally and internationally as a member to The “K” Trio. For 20 years Mary served as a soloist with Symphony Orchestra and previously as a member of The ‘K’ Trio. For 20 years Mary served as Director of Music Educatin at Tokarski Music Center in North Haven, Connecticut, where she taught piano and accordion, as well as conducted the choral and ensemble programs, and supervised the preschool programs.

Mary currently teaches accordion in Connecticut and via Skype, is part of the adjunct faculty at Central Connecticut State University in New Britain, Connecticut and served as a Music Educator in the North Haven Department of Education’s Early Childhood Development Program at Green Acres Elementary School for many years before retiring to focus on entirely on accordion education and performance. Immediate Past President of the American Accordionists’ Association, Mary continues to serve on the Executive Committee.
