Julia Williams Performs USA Premiere of Gorka Hermosa Composition

On September 22, 2018 the USA premiere in of the “Symphonic Anantango” by Gorka Hermosa was performed by the West Kentucky University Symphony Orchestra with accordionist Julia Williams as soloist at the Bowling Green Hall of Kentucky, directed by Brian St. John.
Julia Williams (Cortiñas) from Lincoln, Nebraska, has performed as a soloist and in collaboration with groups for 20+ years. She has performed with the Basilica of St. Mary Choir in Minneapolis, the Prairie Ensemble in Illinois, the Sioux City Symphony, the Omaha Symphony, and the Omaha Chamber Music Society.
Her theatrical credits include productions of ‘The Doctor in Spite of Himself,’ ‘The Government Inspector,’ ‘A Threepenny Opera,’ and ‘A Fiddler on the Roof.’ Williams has an aggressive interpretive style with an affinity for complex rhythms and textures. She uses extended techniques including free bass, various types of vibrato, and percussive effects. Among her peers she is known for her masterful bellows technique.
Among her awards are United States solo classical championship (ATG); North American Invitational championship (AGM); Minnesota State Championship (CATM); UMKC Conservatory of Music Senior Achievement Award
