We are so sorry to inform readers that after a fairytale marriage just four months ago, Rita Barnea (Editor of the United States National Accordion News) has sadly lost her new husband and love of her life Asher, who tragically passed away after a very short battle with cancer, a disease that had unknowingly spread throughout his body.
It was only a few weeks ago, that Rita and her late husband Asher were in attendance at the 75th Anniversary of the American Accordionists’ Association (AAA), where Rita had the great pleasure of proudly introducing her new husband to many of her accordion family and friends. After she recently moved to Florida to begin her new life with Asher, it is almost unimaginable that such tragedy has struck.
On behalf of all the accordion world and the many friends from around the globe that Rita has made during her years as editor of the United States National Accordion News, we offer our sincerest condolences, as she copes with this incredibly sad time in her life.

It is my great pleasure to help my dear friend Rita out this month by “Guest Editing’ the October edition of the US News. I had the honor of inaugurating the US National Accordion News ‘last century’ in December 1999, and producing it monthly for 10 years. As my commitments with various accordion activities changed over the years, I was thrilled when Rita was able to take on this big task for me. During her term as Editor, she has not only excelled in her role, but she has taken this monthly publication to new heights, working tirelessly to promote accordionists and accordion events across the United States.
I enjoy joining the tens of thousands of viewers each month, as I read about the varied and interesting array of accordion activities taking place from coast to coast.
We look forward to welcoming Rita back in November when she will resume her position, as she celebrates the completion of her 5th Anniversary as Editor.
Once again, my sincerest sympathies to Rita during this most difficult and sad time.
Sincerely,
Kevin Friedrich, Guest Editor
