Holiday Happenings: The Washington Metropolitan Accordion Society (WMAS)

December 1st 2012
Joan Grauman Morse, AAA Historian
Dublin
Jim Vandelly

For the past nine of its almost ten years, WMAS has enjoyed two traditions: the November concert by our own Jim Vandelly and the December Holiday Concert/Potluck Dinner. Jim’s performance on November 11 was yet another success and, as always, he left us wanting more. He played beautiful, beloved Russian folk tunes on his bayan, gave us a few pointers on triple bellows shaking (which Jim makes look simple and it is NOT) and on Russian ornamentation and variations, and then switched to piano accordion for more lovely music.

The popular Holiday Concert will be on December 16 at 4:PM and is open to the public (see flyer). The club’s ensemble, the Potomac Accordion Ensemble, has started a few traditions of its own.  They will perform at the Brookside Gardens Light Show in Wheaton, Maryland on December 8 at 6:30 PM. This will be the fifth year the ensemble will be bringing holiday music to the gardens. On December 15, the ensemble will once again be playing holiday music at the lovely Dublin Roasters Coffeehouse in Frederick, Maryland, from 1 to 3:PM (see flyer).

WMAS wants to wish all of you a very happy holiday season!
