10 Year Old Accordionist On Cinco de Mayo Program

The Multi-Educational Cross Cultural Arts Association (MECCA) Texas Fiddler and Cloggers from Killeen, Texas played at the opening ceremony for the 2011 season of the Texas Pickin Park at Fayetteville, Texas on Saturday, April 9. The group includes:( in Photograph) left to right: 13 year old Samantha Salvador-fiddle, 14 year old Osvaldo Sanchez-mandolin, 10 year old Sabrina Salvador-button accordion, and Dr. Daniel Kott-upright bass.

The group played old time songs and performed Clogging routines to their live music. Every second Saturday, they perform at various bluegrass/old time jam session throughout Texas. There is a weekend jam session at the Texas Pickin Park. Accordion players are welcome at the one hour directed old time jam session and the one hour instructional beginner/intermediate bluegrass jam session. 

On Thursday, May 5 (Cinco de Mayo), from 2:00 to 3:PM CDT, they will present a program of how to celebrate Cinco de Mayo with music and dance. These same musicians are also Maraichi de Colores.  Mariachi and Conjunto styles of music will be will be broadcast over the regional Central Texas area by KPLE-TV. This program will also be webcast on the Internet on Ustream – dfkott, and will be an interactive video conference to 25 schools throughout Texas over connect2texas bridging network.
