
On October 4th, 11th and 18th, Dr. William Schimmel performed to sold out houses in performances of Edith Piaf songs at New York’s Metropolitan Room, one of Manhattan’s upscale cabarets. The featured vocalist was Gay Marshall. The performances also acted as CD release events, celebrating the release of Gay Marshall’s new recording of the songs of Piaf.
On October 15, William Schimmel performed live to the Interactive video: Kid Billy – with his wife, Micki Goodman who made and directed the video. The video features a story and music by Dr Schimmel and a dance by Micki. The video was edited by Deborah Magocsi. He also performed Pietro Deiro’s Atonal Studies and did a new cover version for bass accordion and vocals of Henry Cowell’s Iridescent Rondo. These performances were part of the American Accordionists’ Association (AAA) concert at the Graduate Center CUNY.
On November 13, 15 and 16, William Schimmel will perform in Marie Galante by Kurt Weill at the Florence Gould Hall/French Alliance.
On November 19, William Schimmel will be a guest alumni artist at The Juilliard School in a performance of Alexander Shchetynsky’s Chamber Concerto for 13 instrumentalists. Joel Sachs will conduct The New Juilliard Ensemble. Dr. Schimmel was one of the original members of the Juilliard Ensemble when it was initially founded back in 1967 by Dennis Russel Davis and Luciano Berio. The performance will take place at the Peter Jay Sharp Theatre at Lincoln Center. Dr Schimmel is no stranger to the music of Alexander Shchetnysky. He gave the New York Premiere of Mr. Shchetnsky’s Sonata for Accordion in new re-mix version back in 1999 at New York University.
