The Annual ‘Squeeze-In’ was held from September 27th through 29th in Western Massachusetts.
The Squeeze-In is a relaxed and laid back weekend gathering of players and their partners where participants attend just for the legendary fun of it. Held at the Chimney Corners, a fabulously well appointed year round camp and conference center in the Berkshire Hills of western Massachusetts, 30 minutes from the Lee exit off the Mass Pike and close to Tanglewood, the summer home of the Boston Symphony Orchestra (BSO), attendees play, dance, jam and celebrate the big finale on the Saturday evening. Beginners and the talented advanced musicians alike are welcomed to the annual event.
Meet old friends and new as free-reed aficionados play an eclectic assortment of bellows instruments in addition to having a trade show where they have their bellows driven paraphernalia for sale, swapping and hagglement.
During the event, you might be involved in a tango workshop, learn Klezmer or Breton or Scottish or Irish or Balkan, see how to fix your concertina or accordion, talking to people that repair and make them, browse and “test-drive” all kinds of instruments (they’re as different as people; take this opportunity to find your musical soul mate!), ask questions and get answers (that you’d never find anywhere else!) and learn some new subtleties of your squeeze box and find out, finally, how to play that tricky passage that’s had you stumped.
