ATAM Presented New England Music Festival’s 50th Anniversary Event

Michael Falcetti, President of the Accordion Teachers Association of Massachusetts welcomed contestants and their families, past members and over 35 past champions at its’ Gala Awards banquet, Saturday evening April 14th in celebration of the New England Music Festival’s 50th Anniversary Grand Event on April 13, 14, 15, 2012.

The magnificent Air Force Strolling Strings from Washington, D.C. entertained throughout the evening to a capacity crowd of over 500 guests. Everyone was amazed by the precision, musicianship and virtuosity they displayed leaving the crowd in awe. 

New England Cup, Entertainment and Championship trophies were awarded.  A gift from the ATAM was presented to the members, judges, charter members and special guests. Roger Latulippe was honored and given a special gift for his 40 years as contest co-chairman. He announced his retirement as co-chairman. Peggy Falcetti was also honored and given a special gift for her 35 years as contest co-chairman and will be the chairman of next years Festival. Over $11,000.00 in scholarships, cash awards and trophies were awarded over the weekend.

Linda Reed, President of the AAA presented a Certificate of Merit to the ATAM for their continued support of accordion activities for 50 years.

After the Gala Awards Banquet, a Dance Party was held for all of the contestants.The Strolling Strings performed a mini concert on Sunday in the Ballroom for over 800 people. 

The 84 page 50th Anniversary souvenir journal contained many historical facts about the New England Music Festival and several congratulation letters from Deval Patrick, Governor of Massachusetts, Scott Brown, U.S. Senator, and Keith Lockhart, conductor of the Boston Pops.

A highlight of this special weekend was performances by several reunion accordion orchestra’s including: the Miguel School of Music Orchestra under the direction of Donna Michael, the Springfield Accordion and Guitar Orchestra conducted by Sam & Michael Falcetti who performed a James Bond Medley and the Rosita Lee Showstoppers Orchestra and dancers under the direction of DeeDee Latulippe.

Now that this fabulous event is over and over 2000 score sheets have been given to the contestants, planning has begun for the 51st event to be held on April 5,6,7, 2013 continuing the Festival for many years to come.
