Popular regional touring and recording band, Copper Box, recently released their new CD, “After the Rain”.
Fronted by accordion master Danny Jerabek, Fox Valley-based Copper Box dances in the crossroads of polka, Zydeco, blues, Tex-Mex and rock. Its songbook ranges from Bela Fleck to Bonnie Raitt to Los Lobos, along with the song that earned the band notoriety throughout the area, its ramped-up, polka-ized version of Pink Floyd’s “Comfortably Numb.” Jerabek has been able to feature the accordion in a diverse range of music, but it’s no novelty act.
Danny Jerabek (accordion, keys, vocals, cornet, sousaphone, etc.) and his wife, Michelle (Thull) Jerabek (bari saxophone, vocals, guitar, washboard, etc.) both started performing with their family on stage at an early age. Once in their teens, they crossed paths again and eventually realized they were meant to be together. They started writing songs and formed a band and the rest is history! The current line up includes the highly regarded talents of Drew Hicks (bass, guitar) and Jason Van Ryzin (drums and percussion).
Danny Jerabek was given an accordion from his grandfather at age 9 and taught himself how to play it. Inspired by Steve (Esteban) Jordan, “the Jimi Hendrix of Tejano Accordion” he began to “rock out” and improvise –thinking a little more, “outside the box.” He has been featured at the International Accordion Festival in San Antonio, TX and the National Accordion Festival in Houston, TX and the Cotati Accordion Festival in Cotati, CA, and has been featured on national TV.
For over 12 years the band has been pushing to keep this band on the road with the help of family, friends and fans. Copper Box has performed small, intimate shows to large, main stage festivals nationwide with artist such as: The Little River Band, Buckwheat Zydeco, Little Feat, Little Big Town, Peter Frampton, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Lou Gramm, Marcia Ball, C.J. Chenier, Brave Combo, Terrance Simien, W.C. Clark, The Doobie Brothers, Los Lonely Boys, and REO Speedwagon.
