Dr. William Schimmel’s “Tributaries” can be seen and heard on YouTube where he performed his 7 hour composition in 7 one hour segments.

In addition to this Magnum Opus, he composed a tributary to Linda Reed in honor of her contributions to the accordion and 60 years of friendship. The work is entitled “Bridgeport”.

“Tributaries” – a 7 Hour Work for Solo Accordion by William Schimmel is a set of pieces that explore the accordion in all facets, moods and styles presented and performed by Dr. William Schimmel – The works were presented in February and March 2021. “Tributaries” can mean many things – a small river flowing into a large river, a tribute to a composer or a reference or a spray of references from all of accordion history fusing with the history of western – and in a few cases, Eastern music. Otto Luening, recipient of one of the AAA commissions said to Dr. Schimmel on one occasion: “You’re doing what Liszt and Busoni were doing in the 19th Century but in a contemporary way.”
