Twenty-eight artists from all over the US and Canada will gather in Houston, Texas to play under the direction of accordionist, composer, and conductor, Stas Venglevski. Ten youths have been selected to receive scholarships for this event, which will take place January 16-19. This year’s theme is “American Music Tribute” featuring works by William Grant Still, Samuel Barber, George Gershwin, and Percy Grainger. Five original pieces composed by participating youth artists will also be premiered.
The retreat will culminate with two public concerts. The first concert will take place on Saturday, January 18 in Brookshire and will include the Brookwood Handbell Ensemble. Admission is free. The second concert will take place on Sunday, January 19 at Lambert Hall in Houston. Admission is $25 (FREE for students with proper ID). Flyers with details are included with this article.
