Joe Cerrito writes: “Joan Grauman told me many times, “You should write a piece for the accordion that reflects your style of playing.” With that in mind, I came up with a simple melody (theme) using a major 7 to 6. Experimenting with different variations of major 7 to 6, I wanted to inject some fun and excitement, thus the scherzo. My intention was to make this piece a bit different from the standard accordion solo.

I sincerely hope that all who play Theme and Scherzo and listeners also, will enjoy a little bit of jazz in this piece. I dedicate this work to Dan and Joan Grauman.”
