Marie-Andrée Joerger, in 2013, founded the accordion program at the Académie Supérieure de Musique de Strasbourg. She is the quintessential concert-accordionist-pedagogue of the 21st Century: she brings passion, energy, and experience to her teaching of all levels (from children to university graduates), touring her own ensembles, making groundbreaking recordings, and research projects and arts advocacy.
An accomplished accordionist who graduated with honors from the hight schools of music Freiburg, Germany (studying with Teodoro Anzellotti) and Basel, Switzerland (Master’s degree specialized in contemporary music), Marie-Andrée Joerger performs as a soloist, as well as with orchestras and other ensembles over all the world.
Marie-Andrée Joerger has been teaching at the Conservatoire de Strasbourg and the Académie Supérieure de Musique de Strasbourg. She is often invited to give master classes and as a jury in International competitions in Italy, Lithuania, Poland, Slovenia, Switzerland, Germany. She played in festivals such as “ÖGZM” in Vienna-Austria, “Festival Folia” in Montreal-Canada, “Festival International de Musique” in Colmar-France, “Zelt-Musik-Festival” in Freiburg-Germany, “Festival Musica” in Strasbourg-France, “Akordeono Festivalis” in Vilnius -Lithuania, “Festival Manifeste” in Paris-France, “Venice Biennale” in Italy, “Upol” in Nova Gorica-Slovenia, “Artsmondo” in Strasbourg-France, to collaborations with ensembles such as the National Philharmonic Orchestra of Russia, the Philharmonic Orchestra of Freiburg, the Toulouse Chamber Orchestra, the Philharmonic Orchestra of Nancy and Strasburg. She has performed alongside several renowned soloists such as Armand Angster, Marc Coppey, François Kubler, Daishin Kashimoto, and Pierre Strauch. She has also won several international competitions in Geneva (Swizterland), Atri (Italy), and Montrond les Bains (France).
An active member of the contemporary music scene, Marie-Andrée Joerger has collaborated with composers such as Bernard Cavanna, Daniel D’Adamo, Thierry Escaich, Beat Furer, Martin Matalon, Misato Mochizuki, Alberto Posadas, Annette Schlünz, premiering new pieces as a soloist or within an ensemble as Thierry Escaich’s first solo work for accordion at the Berlin Philharmonic Hall.
