Each spring and fall, WMAS hosts a “Guest Artist Series” concert.  On April 17, the club was treated to a concert by Baltimore, MD’s own “Bean Soup Project”, featuring accordionist Duffy Llama.

The Bean Soup Project is the culmination of 20 years of song writing talent and perseverance.  The group consists of three main songwriters: Bob Sturgill on vocals and guitar, Lindy McNutt on vocals and guitar and Duffy Llama on vocals, accordion and keyboards.  The group is rounded off by Ken Horanoff on bass and Box Turtle Bob Chirnside on drums.

At the WMAS concert, Duffy’s wife Holly Degen joined in on washboard. As its name suggests, the Bean Soup Project is meant to be a mixture of many tastes and textures – and they are totally delightful!  They received a well-deserved standing ovation from the many members and friends who attended their concert.

The next WMAS meeting on May 15, 2016 will feature a workshop by the club’s music director, Joan Grauman. Joan gets questioned often, when people want to purchase new and used accordions, about reed configurations, accordion size, instrument age and condition, what one needs when playing a particular type of music, etc.  She hopes to answer these questions and demonstrate different piano accordions in her workshop entitled “Understanding your accordion and understanding your needs when choosing a new instrument”.  On June 12, 2016 the club will host its 13th annual Spring Members’ Concert.

Guests are always welcome!
