Accordionist Hanzhi Wang performed on March 28 and 29, 2026 with the Santa Barbara Symphony Orchestra. She joined conductor Nir Kaberetti for a concert at the Granada Theatre called “Bella Italia.”

Guest artist Cristian Carrara also joined Wang to perform the U.S. Premier of “Red Ferrari Accordion Concerto” co-commissioned by the Santa Barbara Symphony.
Hanzhi shares, “Santa Barbara, you have my heart! I am still buzzing from the US premiere of Cristian Carrara’s accordion concerto, “Rosso Ferrari,” with the Santa Barbara Symphony and Maestro Nir Kabaretti.

Sharing my own edition of Vivaldi’s “Winter” made the program even more personal. My favorite feedback? An audience member told me the music felt so “scary and chilly” that they found themselves holding their partner’s hand for comfort!
The concert was a 400-year journey through the spirit of Italy. While some might have wondered how a Chinese accordionist would interpret such a deeply Italian theme, I was so moved when some Italians told me after the show that I performed with an “Italian soul.”
I’m truly flattered and my heart is full, being surrounded by so many wonderful people and new friends. Santa Barbara is always a fantastic destination for me to perform—and seeing my poster next to my childhood idols was the absolute cherry on top! Back to New York with a very full heart.”
