The accordion duo, “Creosote”, with Jamie Maschler and Gabe Hall-Rodrigues released their new album called “Lua de Bebe” on September 1, 2026. Recorded in Recife, Rio de Janeiro, and Porto Alegre, the album blends original compositions with forró, choro, milonga, samba, and baião, all reimagined through the duo’s distinctive accordion voice.

The album, recorded in Brazil, is their second album. Their music is quite distinctive because it is essentially two accordionists playing together, with both original compositions and arrangements of Brazilian and world music. They have performed pieces by composers such as Dominguinhos and Camarão, alongside their own works.

A particularly interesting detail is that the title “Lua de Bebê” means “Baby Moon,” in Portuguese reflecting the fact that Jamie was about six months pregnant during the Brazil recording trip that inspired the album.

What’s especially exciting is that they didn’t simply record another accordion-duo album in Seattle. They went to Brazil and collaborated with musicians from different regions of Brazil, bringing those musicians and Brazilian musical traditions into the project. Their sound combines Brazilian music, jazz, classical, tango and French musette, along with their own original compositions and arrangements.

And there’s a wonderful backstory to the two of them. Jamie and Gabe met while working at Petosa Accordions in Seattle and developed Creosote out of their shared passion for Brazilian music and the accordion. They’ve spent years traveling, performing and studying accordion music around the world.

Jamie Maschler and Gabe Hall-Rodrigues have devoted much of their lives to exploring the expressive range and versatility of the accordion. Creosote represents the culmination of their combined experience, and for more than a decade the duo has been cultivating a distinctive musical voice. Drawing from deep roots in Brazilian music, jazz, classical, French musette, and tango, Creosote creates original compositions and inventive arrangements for dueling accordions.

Their shared passion for the instrument has taken them around the world in pursuit of musical exchange and collaboration. Highlights include recording, performing and studying in Brazil, competing in the 2019 and 2020 Trophée Mondial de l’Accordéon in Portugal, and appearing at the NAMM Museum of Making Music in Carlsbad, California. Jamie and Gabe were also featured on TV Ceará’s Sanfonas do Brasil alongside renowned accordionist and host Rodolpho Forte.

In 2025, Creosote was awarded a GAP (Grants for Artist Projects) grant through Artist Trust in support of their second full-length album “Lua de Bebê”. Recorded in Brazil, this ambitious record showcases a cultural exchange of musical styles from multiple regions of the country.

Beyond performing, Jamie and Gabe are dedicated educators. They co-direct the Emerald City Accordion School, offering online instruction, in-person private lessons, group classes, and the annual Emerald City Accordion Camp.

Jamie Maschler holds a Bachelor of Music in Performance from Cornish College of the Arts, where she studied with Jovino Santos Neto, Chuck Deardorf, Julian Priester, and Murl Allen Sanders.

Gabriel Hall-Rodrigues has a Bachelor of Music Therapy and a Master’s degree in Piano Performance from Arizona State University, where he studied with Mike Kocour and Sam Pilafian. Both have toured extensively throughout the United States with a variety of projects and have performed at accordion festivals nationwide.

Gabe shares, “Some of you might know, I’ve had the opportunity to work and learn at Petosa Accordions since moving to Seattle in 2018. It’s been a wild ride and I’m super grateful for all their help and guidance throughout the years. With their move to Cashmere, WA I will now be opening up my own repair shop in Edmonds, WA. I hope to help lots of people in the accordion community of Seattle and beyond for many years to come.”

Jamie and Gabe also perform with Foleada, Seattle’s premier forró ensemble and a recipient of the 2023 Jack Straw Artist Grant. Foleada released their debut album, “Eu Vou Pra Lua”, in 2024.
