Last night I clicked on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon and was delighted to see The Bengsons with accordionist Shaun Bengson singing their lively song, “My Joy is Heavy”. The band was enthusiastically received by the audience. So much accordion on national TV!! See the video here.

“My Joy is Heavy” is a musical production created and performed by Abigail and Shaun Bengson, with choreography by Steph Paul and direction by Rachel Chavkin. The show explores themes of grief, joy, pregnancy loss, chronic pain, and depression.

Abigail and Shaun Bengson are a married composing and performing duo raising two children in NYC and Vermont. They believe grief and joy are the same thing.

“My Joy is Heavy”, directed by Tony winner Rachel Chavkin (Hadestown), opened Off-Broadway at New York Theatre Workshop March 17, and ends on April 12, 2026.

I am very excited about going to see the show. I hope to meet Shaun Bengson and will report about the meeting if it happens.
